Creamy Chicken Marsala

According to my husband, this chicken marsala recipe is a restaurant worthy dish! It’s so creamy and delicious. We love it over mashed potatoes, but have also served it over pasta and it is just as yummy!

  • 1 ¾ – 2 lb boneless chicken breast butterfly cut
  • 5 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 8 oz package of mushrooms sliced
  • ½ small red onion chopped
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • cup chicken broth
  • cup Marsala wine
  • cup heavy cream
  • 2 tsp thyme leaves


  • Trim and butterfly cut the chicken breasts
  • On a baking sheet, mix together the flour, salt, and pepper
  • Coat both sides of chicken in the flour mixture
  • In a large skillet, heat the butter over medium heat
  • Add chicken to the skillet and cook each side until golden brown (just barely cooked through). Transfer to a plate and set aside
  • In the same skillet, add chopped red onion, washed mushroom slices, and garlic until mushrooms begin to brown
  • Pour in the broth, wine, and heavy cream
  • Add thyme, salt & pepper
  • Stir sauce and bring to a boil
  • Reduce heat to low and transfer chicken back to skillet. Let sauce simmer and serve once sauce slightly thickens and chicken is completely cooked through
